Making my choreographic debut!
This past holiday season I was given the incredible opportunity to choreograph for Dance Divas Nutcracker, a world premiere musical from KOTA productions, which played at Theater Row! The musical is based on New York Times best-selling author Sheryl Berk's book series, Dance Divas, with music by Rachel Griffin and lyrics by Danielle Trzcinski. The production was directed and produced by the founder of Kids of the Arts, Laura Luc, who is a real-life wonder woman and someone who myself and so many look up to and deeply admire.
Making my choreographic debut for a full-length musical, especially one that had never been done before, was already unique and extremely humbling. However, what made the experience all the more memorable was having to incorporate our own mini nutcracker (about 15 mins total) into the show, as The Nutcracker has held a very special place in my heart, even before moving to America and getting to perform in it with the New York City Ballet.
(The team of amazing people who put the show together and helped everything run smoothly included PSM Jerry Pedroza, ASMs Mary Catherine Mangum and Jordan Liau, music director Kristin Stowell, sound designer Steven Mackiewicz, costume designer Lucy Luc, and assistant director Jeorgi Smith. Thank you all for making this holiday season so lovely and unforgettable!)
